Self Esteem - A Key To Enjoyment, Happiness And Well-Being In Life.

With self esteem comes the confidence to enjoy life to the full. This helps you to respect yourself and others. It enables you to be happy and be able to lead a better life.

So what is the definition of self-esteem? Can we define it?

In simple terms esteem means:

To have a good opinion of yourself

To feel you are a good and worthwhile person
To like yourself as you are
To accept yourself the way you are
To have a healthy self respect, while also respecting others
To take an active part in the life you have
To look to improving your lot in life and making a contribution to the common good
So what can I experience?

You recognize and celebrate your successes and achievements
You value and utilize your strengths
You may have doubts and don't know all the answers
You don't put your self down - in action or word
If you make a mistake you're happy to forgive yourself
You are humble without being self effacing
You don't judge yourself too harshly
You don't beat yourself up for your weaknesses
You are happy setting yourself targets and goals, and value any feedback
You have developed a good balance between different parts of your life
Respect yourself if you would have others respect you. Baltasar Gracian

From my notebooks:

The following are taken from my notebooks. They will I hope complement the quotations given above as well as reveal a little more about my life and my thinking about life.

Some are idle thoughts and comments on life and the life we lead. Others could one day be developed further into articles or reports. I feel that they are related to the 'personality quotes' theme.

Personality quotes - from my notebooks

Not to be lost in the crowd. Not to follow blindly like sheep. Not to be overlooked.

Multiple nature of personality. Not feeling myself, that wasn't really me. Did I do that? Jostling, competing characters. Some more constructive than others. Others destructive. Some diplomatic, some unhelpful.

Something lurked in the depths of his personality unseen, not easy to articulate, and a little bit scary.

Know your boundaries, your limits, but remember both boundaries and limits can be increased. They can also be tightened and made smaller. Be aware of both possibilities.

Admit a mistake and move on. Repair the situation to the best of your ability. We all err. Be 'man' enough to realise, admit, rectify and move on. Learn from the experience. Try not to repeat them.

Do things your way. Fine for you if you know what you are doing. But don't be unnecessarily stubborn or obstructive. You have to live with others just as you have to live with yourself.

You have got to know when to say no. It won't bite you. No is no more difficult to say than yes. Both have repercussions. But know that no is an option. You will be respected for it. But know your reasons for saying no, for not wanting to do a particular thing.

We're all fragile. There is a thin line between strength and weakness, action and inaction, progress and stagnation. Just know which side of the fence you want to start and play from.

The kindness of strangers is seen around us. Do we participate or are we an innocent but receiving bystander?

Feel refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready for action. Prepared for all that which life will throw at us.

Are you tough enough? Yes you can be. it is your choice. You have the strength. Just believe it.

How can you be sure? Feel, use your inner feelings and you will find what you are looking for.

your self image-how you identify your self-your own mental image

Your self image is how you evaluate yourself in your life. How you see yourself is very important in how you lead your life. It can be affected by outside influences. Self awareness is related to our image. It allows us to recognize our strengths and talents and lends strength and purpose to our lives. Self actualization is Dr. Maslow's term to describe the pinnacle of human needs. And we all know the term 'comfort zone' but do we know how it affects our lives? Each of these areas of the self, in their own way, help give further support to our self esteem and how it affects our lives.
